Janis Hairdressing founded Anthony Janis in the early 1920’s, having learned the hairdressing in New York after leaving Greece alone as a teenager. Anthony Janis established the first Janis Hairdressers on George Street in the heart of 1920’s Sydney. The prime location made it quickly thrive, it closed within a year of opening after a demolition clause was activated and the building was to be demolished.

Moving to Wellington, Janis Hairdressing re-opened on the corner of Cuba & Vivian St, establishing itself as one of Wellington’s best Barbershops. George Janis joined his father learning the trade & combining as a father and son duo before taking over and expanding into women’s Hairdressing & opening 13  hair salons & Barbershops throughout Wellington over the past 60 years.

Janis Hairdressing led by George has moved and grown through 6+ decades of men’s grooming trends from the Beetle’s inspired long locks of the 60’s through to the slick fades, tapers and quiffs of today.
