Experienced experts in ladies cutting and styling in Wellington

Before Dukes Barbers, there was Janis Hairdressing. George Janis learned the trade from his father on the corner of Cuba and Vivian Street, and went on to open one of the earliest women’s hairdressing salons in Wellington. Over 60 years he opened more than a dozen hairdressing salons Wellington CBD throughout his career, and the George Janis name became well known for women’s hairdressing across the city.

George's first shops in Wellington was one of the first and only to cut both men’s and women’s hair in the same space on Cuba St where the restaurant Ombra now is.

Dukes has carried that on: it might be called a barbershop now, but the experience and skill in ladies’ hairdressing and being able to cut hair of all lengths and styles is still part of it.
